Fundraising

Fundraising feels great and can be a joint activity with school mates or family.

Which charity should I choose?

  • Choose a charity about which you’re passionate – click here for information on the charities already involved on the day
  • Your school may have a particular charity that they support
  • Perhaps your family is close to a charity
  • The Little Star Foundation is our headline sponsor Haven’s chosen charity, and they raise money for deserving children across the UK. You can raise money for The Little Star Foundation by setting up a fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving.
  • Or if you don’t know who to run for then why not run for us, the Royal Parks Foundation – which is the charity for London’s eight Royal Parks

Our projects include:-

  • Building a fabulous, new, eco-friendly £1m education centre in the middle of Hyde Park
  • Looking after the thousands of species of wildlife in the Parks, from birds and bats to beetles and butterflies
  • Restoring broken drinking fountains
  • Caring for the Parks 130,000 trees
  • Creative art projects like Deckchair Dreams with pupils from schools around the Parks

Getting Started

  • Sponsorship form – you can either
    • download a sponsorship form here
    • or create your own online form – which is probably the simplest way to gather sponsorship money. Simply click here to set-up your online Virgin Money Giving fundraising page, add your own personal touches and start collecting sponsorship in minutes.
  • Draw up a list of family and friends – choose someone who will give generously as your first sponsor – that way the rest are more likely to follow suit!
  • Fundraising ideas – make them simple yet attractive (and always get permission first!) eg.
    • Bric-a-brac stall at school – you probably have lots of old things that you no longer use, but that others would be delighted to pay a small price for. And you could ask your friends to bring along something they no longer want too …
    • Do you like cooking – how about a lunchtime cake stall?
    • Sports Personality – ask your school whether you can have a day where, if you pay a small fee, you can dress up as a sports personality. Perhaps this could take place in National School Sports Week – 28th June – 2nd July http://www.schoolsportweek.org/
    • Clean your neighbours’ cars – everyone likes a shiny, clean car and what better way to raise money for charity – your neighbours might really welcome your help
    • Summertime weeds – have you seen everything sprouting up really fast now summer is here – why not offer to do an hour’s weeding?
    • No garden? – then how about hoovering and dusting in return for a small donation to your favourite charity
    • Be creative – eg challenge your friends to an Xbox tournament and charge a small entry fee

Collecting funds raised

  • On line – post a photo of you crossing the finish line and e-mail all the people who have given money so that they appreciate your achievement
  • Sponsorship form – it’s best to collect the donations very soon after the run, so that it’s fresh in people’s minds. Take your medal around to everyone so that they can see that you achieved your goal
  • Celebrate – shout about your success – you’ll have achieved something very special

Sunday 10.10.10 countdown

A really great event that helped me raise more than £300 for my charity, my family and friends had a lovely morning out, and it left me feeling good about running and wanting to do more. I was pleased with my time and I’ll definitely be entering again next year. Having it happening at the same time as the 1/2 marathon was great too. Thanks very much!
